Welcome to my Narrative Project page! On this page I will be posting my drafts for my narrative project. Each and every draft will have improvements made to it to make it as good as possible. My experience writing narrative papers is very limited. The only time I have ever written one would be when I was in high school. Even then it was only maybe two or three times. While writing the Narrative Projects that I have done in high school, i struggled with them a lot. Many times it frustrated me trying to get it all down on paper, and I never really understood or grasped the whole concept of a Narrative. I more or less thought of it as an autobiography type of project more than anything. For me that was always very boring and mundane and it made me hate writing them. However, once I started my English Composition Class it put things into perspective for me, and as it turns out, I really enjoy writing narrative papers! For this project, the part that I personally am struggling with is how exactly to compose and lay it out. I cannot seem to decide which order I want to present the information.
Recently the only practice I have had pertaining to narrative writing are a few of my blog posts. Starting with Blog post 3: Composing an Emotional Scene, I got a taste of writing a narrative through composing an emotional scene. This was something that I have done only once before. So it was very nice to revisit and try it again. It really brought about the emotional aspect of a narrative and helped me understand the power of emotion in a narrative. My experience writing emotional scenes however has vastly changed. The only other time I had done this was writing a fiction story for one of my english classes in high school. I was just making stuff up. For this project due to it being a nonfiction narrative, I really had to dig deep and focus. It made me more diligent in the entire composition of the narrative. Writing a nonfiction and fiction story are very different, and expanding my writing to a nonfiction narrative I feel has really benefitted me. The next blog, Blog post 4: Composing an Emotional Scene with Dialogue, took the idea of composing an emotional scene and added dialogue. I have written pieces with dialogue multiple times, so this was nothing new to me. However, adding it to an emotional scene enhances the power of the overall narrative, a concept which I will be using in my narrative. I have never written an emotional scene with dialogue before, and this blog post really showed me how much it can enhance the writing. Other times that I have written with dialogue were once again fictional stories, and I did not have the whole emotional scene thing down. Therefore, my writing was pretty bad. So I really enjoyed compiling the two ideas together to make one great product. Adding to what I had learned from these two blogs, Blog post 5: My Narrative Project: A Wizard of Oz Journey, helped me gain perspective into my narrative. The post was all about reflection. After writing the blog I realized a few things that I needed to change about my narrative. Things such as needing to put more emphasis on the aspects of emotion, action, and description, as well as making sure I convey a clear, solid message or overall theme were the main ideas this blog post reinforced. Overall it made my writing more captivating, meaningful, and of course flow better. It made me realize it is important to reflect not only on my writing, but reflect on the actual story itself. For the time being these are my most recent experiences with narrative writing. In the weeks to come I will be writing more blog posts that will add to my writing abilities, and I will continue to update this page as I write.
