My name is Douglas Neubauer. I'm a 24 year old male from Aston Pennsylvania. I have three dogs, one brother and two sisters. I am currently a security guard at both Longwood Gardens and Villanova University. Just a little more background information, I graduated high school in 2014 and left the same year and joined the United States Marine Corps. I spent 4 yearsserving on active duty as a Combat Engineer, division side (Meaning my job was using a metal detector to find IED's and mines as well as specializing in explosives and explosive construction)During this period I traveled all over the world and deployed overseas twice. I finished my enlistment and came home where I took a year off and started college in the fall of 2019 at Delaware County Community College as a nursing major.
Who are my favorite writers and/or composers?
I do not necessarily have a favorite writer or composer. If I was to narrow it down I think my first choice would be Stephen King. I love his books and the way he rights. If I were to just sit down and open a book on a random day, chances are it is Stephen King.
What types of writing do I enact most often?
The first and most obvious type would be posts on social media and or text messages. For me, I do not necessarily view that as writing. So the next type of writing I enact would be Non-fiction based. I have done plenty of research papers. The next and honestly probably to the same extent would be reflections. I write those, a lot.
When do I write?
Usually when I write I am doing it for reflection reasons or school projects. Otherwise it can be when I am feeling extremely upset or need to vent and do not have other means to.
Where do I write?
I usually write in my room at my desk. Generally Thats the only place that I can get work done. If I am not writing it out on my laptop, I am usually using a piece of notebook paper. It can range from a very small pocket notebook, to a full 5 subject notebook.
Why do I write?
Generally I write to alleviate stress or to help clear my mind. That is whenever I am writing for personal reasons and not school. A lot of times I find myself writing to people who I cannot talk to anymore. Close friends who I just never got to say stuff to, usually in a reflection type of writing.
How have my past experiences shaped my author identity and how can I reshape my author identity in this course?
My past experiences make it very easy for me to write reflection pieces and help me make much of what I write emotional. A lot of my writing can be emotional, especially since most of it is reflection based. Most of the reflections I write, like I said before, are to close friends I no longer get the chance to talk to. I find it easier to tap into my emotions and make a vivid scene because of this. However, during this course, I would like to expand my writing abilities so that I can encompass more writing skills and open up my writing to other genres.
While this is only a brief introduction of myself, you can find out more about me by viewing my Proust Questionnaire. I encourage you to take a look so you can get a better idea of who I am as a person, and a writer!
